Stacey Dash Back On Top With Dysfunctional Friends

After giving up her spot for Season 2 of The VHI Smash Citcom “Single Ladies” as Val, Stacey lands a “Leading Lady” role in Dysfunctional Friends. Apparently everything about Single Ladies wasn’t what it seemed but when one door closes another opens.

The movie’s cast includes several names of young Black Hollywood actors and actresses you’ll immediately be familiar with, like Meagan Good, Tatyana Ali, Essence Atkins, Reagan Gomez, Stacy Keibler, Keith Robinson, Jason Weaver, Wesley Jonathan, Vanessa Simmons, and a few others. NFL pro Terrell Owens also co-stars by the way – in what will be his big screen debut. GO T.O!  No NFL Team wanted to pick him up this year so I say “Make It Do What It Do”.

It’s funny how money and lost can bring family and friends together and at the same time tear them apart. Which is basically the films synopsis. A Comedy/ Drama which is basically a reminiscent of The Big Chill for all the movie fans out there. Nine friends are reunited after their larger then life friend unexpectedly dies. The friends who haven’t seen each other in years are all forced to stay at their deceased friends estate for the weekend and must reconnect with each other working through all of their issues in order to each collect their inheritance. I am looking forward to seeing the film and Stacey’s comeback as well as T.O”s debut.  Congrats!

Taking Advantage Of Auto Insurance: Horror Stories

By now you should probably know about the many benefits of having auto insurance. By doing so you are protecting your health and financial well-being. What we don’t often hear about are the many horrible situations people have to experience for various reasons; sometimes their fault, and sometimes the fault of the insurance companies. However, we are required by law to carry car insurance at all time while driving.  All we can do is ensure that we don’t get ourselves into the same situation, and that we learn from other people’s mistakes. So without further ado, I present to you auto insurance horror stories:

Kathy, 29, from Brooklyn, New York had been sideswiped on her way back from work one evening. Uufortunately, up until this day she is still not completely sure what happened. All she can remember is getting hit and the next thing she was up against a light post on the side of the road. It turns out, the guy that hit her didn’t have any auto insurance. She had wrenched her neck pretty bad and was in a lot of pain, so she went over to the hospital to get it checked out. She called her insurance company the next morning to report her claim and was hoping to get reimbursed for the medical bill. Apparently, since the other guy didn’t have insurance and her plan didn’t have under-insured motorist bodily injury coverage, she was out of luck and ended up having to pay an $800 medical bill out of pocket.

What We Can Learn From Kathy’s Story:
*Always make sure you have appropriate forms of coverage, in this case, under-insured motorist bodily injury coverage (UNDUM).

Don’t cut out particular forms of coverage just to save a few bucks. If we knew when accidents were coming we wouldn’t need insurance at all, unfortunately this is far from reality.

The next horror story:

Jeffery, 33 from Yonkers, New York  had just switched his auto insurance to a new company with better coverage, since he had just got a promotion and wanted to make sure he had all forms of coverage. Everything went smoothl and he was already feeling safer with his finances. 6 months passed and he got 2 bills in the mail; one from his new insurance company and one for his old company. It seems so obvious now but at the time he had no idea you actually had to cancel your previous policy. Long story short, he ended up paying an additional $500 to his old insurer in addition to the cost of his new policy.

What We Can Learn From Jeffery’s Story

* You always have to cancel your old policy, once you’ve switched companies. Otherwise you may be paying for coverage you won’t even be using.

DRIVE SAFELY!

BET: ‘Reed Between The Lines’

I have watched a couple of episodes of ‘Reed Between The Lines’. I can’t say that I’m a fan. It seems as if the show is an attempt to recreate the Cosby’s but with a more modern-day sort-of twist. But, I have just an itty bitty little minor critique. I understand the importance of creating a show depicting African-Americans in a positive manner because our television screens are inundated with g-string gyrating video chicks, but…right now…based on what I’m seeing…it’s…um…BORING. I’m sorry. I have to be honest. I want to be entertained. I want to laugh. I want to learn. I want to ENJOY what I’m watching. I want a funny, realistic, positive yet JUICY show. Instead, I feel like I’m watching PAINT DRY. There are some semi funny scenes but nothing worth remembering. I need a LOT more humph in the writing so the characters can be more appealing, funny and relatable. The only interesting aspect of the show are Carla’s CLOTHES!!! I must admit that is the reason why I tuned in again because I wanted to see what she will be wearing. However, for all of you ‘Reed Between The Lines’ lovers, I will continue to watch and support, but if they don’t get it together they will get a Damon Waynes and David Allen Grier…’HATED IT’ two snaps and a circle with a twist vote from ME!!!

Love and Hip Hop Season Premiere

I am certain that everyone tuned into the season premiere of ‘Love and Hip Hop’. I was amazed at the drama that unfolded being that it was the first episode. I didn’t anticipate on seeing hair pulling and bleeped out crouches on the FIRST episode. I assumed it would be the usual, Emily crying over a relationship she never had with Fabulous, Chrissy still complaining that she doesn’t have a ring from Jim Jones, Olivia still trying to market herself as a vocalist and Somaya trying to ummm…rap…yeah. LOL

What do you guys think about momma Jones diss track?  I must admit it was borderline disrespectful because it’s adding fuel to the fire in regards to her and Chrissy relationship, but it surely is heightening the curiosity of intrigued viewers. That part of the episode will definitely have me watching the episodes to come because I want to know if there will be more songs and if there will finally be a physical confrontation between Chrissy and momma Jones. But, I doubt that Jim Jones will ever let it go that far. But, lets admit it….it would be JUICY!!! What’s up with Jim Jones “loosing” his ring? WTF!!! Where they do that at? One word…hmmmmm!!!!

Was Chrissy wrong for attacking Kimbella? YES!!! She was totally out-of-pocket. I understand hood codes and the unwritten rule that we are to stick up for our friends and be down for whatever and whenever. But, Emily did not get upset or wanted to fight Kimbella. So, why did Chrissy felt froggy and dare attack Kimbella? Emily may not have known Fabulous cheated on her with Kimbella but hell she knew there were several woman so what’s the fight about? LOL. That was a battle that should have been fought by Emily and NOT Chrissy. Now, Kimbella made a poor choice in using that place and time to share such information but that does not give Chrissy the justification to attack her. It seems like Chrissy is trying to become the Nene Leaks and Tammi “hoodrat” Romain of ‘Love and Hip Hop’.

What do you guys think? Will you be watching next Monday? I know I will.

Views On THE HELP

I had the pleasure of reading Kathryn Stockett‘s Best Selling Novel THE HELP during a summer vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC. I had nothing but time and figured in order to get the most out of this book, I had to develop a deep and driving desire to master the relations between the two groups of women. THE HELP claims to represent an untold story of black caregivers and white nurtured and cared for through the genre of fiction. I would take this opportunity to actually grasp knowledge from my surrondings. As I read, I stopped frequently and made a lively game out of my learning. I was fortunate to spend my teenage years in a southern state and have associates from both sides of the fence.

I was able to speak with black women whose mothers were care givers and I must say that their view on THE HELP was not pleasing. As children of caregivers, they’re mothers love was shared. At times, the nurtured child received more love from the caregiver than their own child. Mothers were overworked, humiliated, and too exaushted to care for their own families when they got home. However, After speaking with black caregivers, their love for their families was stronger than they would ever know. It takes a strong, passionate, and genuine woman to care for another womans family. One woman quoted “It was for the love of God and my own family why i cared for theirs”. Basically, this was a job that paid the bills and put food on her families table in a nutshell. Think back to Lorraine Hansberry‘s A Raisin In The Sun.

After speaking with a white woman who was nurtured by a black woman, her view of THE HELP was also unpleasing. Her view was another hollywood profited film that thrives on friendships between black and white characters. One of my favorites was Fannie Hurst‘s Imitation of Life. When we look at society at large, who is at at large? Are relationships between black and white made for capitalism? When we hear about relationships between the two, blacks are never in a position of hierarchy. Wheter it be the slave and master, the maid and housewife, the manager and CEO, there always seem to be a workerbee who is at disposition and has a story to tell. Does THE HELP push further than past race stories to promote change? Does THE HELP challenge race and hierarchies? Looking forward to seeing if change comes with a whisper.
